Homesite Prep

From Raw Lot to Ready to Build.

Clearing, stumps, scalping, rough grading, and cleanup — everything that has to happen before an excavator or a builder can start. We take it as far as our lane goes, and we tell you exactly where that line is before you hire us.

What this covers

The work before the work.

Whether you’re putting up a house, a shop, a barn, or a cabin, somebody has to get the ground ready first — trees down, stumps out, brush gone, sod stripped, and the site knocked into rough shape so the next crew can work. That’s this.

We also work directly with builders and excavators who’d rather hand off the clearing and site cleanup than tie up their own equipment on it. If you’re a GC and that’s your situation, call us — we’ll show up when we said, do our part, and get out of your way.

Clearing the Footprint

Brush, saplings, and undergrowth mulched off the house pad, the yard, the driveway line, and wherever else needs to be open. Mark the trees you want kept and they stay.

Stump Removal

Mulchers leave stumps behind. If you’re building or seeding over it, tell us — we grind well below grade for anything that has to be mowable or buildable, not just flush.

Yard Scalping

Stripping the top layer of grass, sod, and surface weeds down to bare soil without digging into the dirt underneath. The reset before new sod, seed, or a gravel pad goes down.

Rough Grading & Leveling

Knocking down high spots, filling low ones, and getting the site into workable shape. Rough grade — not engineered final grade to a survey. That’s a different job and we’ll say so.

Material Moving

Spreading topsoil or gravel, moving logs and rock out of the way with a grapple, and drilling post holes for fencing. The odd jobs that stall a site if nobody’s got the machine for them.

Debris Haul-Off

Most of what we cut gets mulched on-site. But sod, old fence, junk piles, and anything that shouldn’t stay — that goes on the trailer and leaves with us, priced by volume.

Straight talk

Where our lane ends.

We don’t do foundation or basement excavation, final grade to a survey or engineered spec, septic systems, well work, utility hookups, or driveways built and compacted to a road spec. Those need different equipment, different licensing, and in some cases a different kind of insurance than land services carry.

What we will do is take the site as far as we honestly can, tell you clearly where that line falls on your particular project, and point you toward an excavator or builder who handles the next part. You’ll know that before you hire us — not halfway through.

One more thing worth knowing: anything that goes in the ground — post holes, trenching, grading over unknown ground — starts with a call to Missouri 811. That’s free and it’s the law. What it won’t show is septic lines, irrigation, or invisible fence, so those you point out to us.

How we price this job

Every piece on its own line.

Homesite prep is usually several different jobs stacked on one property, and each one prices differently. You’ll see them broken out separately on your quote — so if you decide to skip the scalping or handle the haul-off yourself, you can see exactly what comes off the number.

Clearing & Stumps

Clearing prices per acre off two on-site ratings — terrain and growth density — with add-ons for larger trees and difficult access. Stumps price per inch of diameter, $200 minimum, with roots and rock rated the same way we do on any stump job.

Scalping

Priced by the square foot in three tiers, based on what’s actually growing there: light or patchy grass with little to haul away, thin grass needing minimal sod removal, or heavy grass where there’s real material coming off. We rate it when we walk it.

Grading & Machine Work

Rough grading, material spreading, grapple work, and post holes get quoted job by job — it depends entirely on how much ground, how much material, and what shape it starts in. We’d rather look at it than guess.

Haul-Off

Anything hauled to disposal is calculated by the cubic yard — the same way a hauling company would measure it. Volume based, not a flat guess, and you’ll see it as its own line.

If something turns up on-site that neither of us could have seen beforehand — buried concrete, a rock shelf where the pad goes — we stop, show you, and agree on it together before any more work happens.

We Work to Your Timeline

Site prep sits at the front of a chain — the excavator’s waiting on us, the builder’s waiting on them. We schedule around that and tell you straight if we can’t hit a date, rather than letting it slide and holding up everyone behind us.

Licensed & Insured

Full commercial insurance and a real Springfield business license. If you’re a builder or GC who needs a certificate of insurance on file before we set foot on the site, just ask and we’ll get it to you.

Related work we do

Homesite prep pulls from most of what we do. The clearing itself is forestry mulching, the stumps come out with stump grinding, and the driveway approach or utility corridor is access clearing. If the lot has acreage beyond the build site you want opened up, that’s pasture reclamation — and if honeysuckle or cedar is what’s covering it, that’s worth reading before you start. We prep sites across all eight counties we serve.
